The Championships as a Springboard for Young Talent and Track & Field Scholarships
The first weekend in July was not only significant for the European Championship quarterfinals but also for the German athletics scene. Germany’s top young athletes gathered at Grenzlandstadion Mönchengladbach from July 5 to 7 to compete in the U18 and U23 age groups at the German Championships.
The three days were filled with excitement and exceptional performances, where every centimeter and millisecond could make a difference. Records were broken, personal bests were achieved, and tears of joy were shed—and Keystone Sports was there live!
Showcasing Talent and Connecting with Track & Field College Coaches
The stadium was filled on all three days with enthusiastic parents, coaches, and fans celebrating the athletes’ exceptional performances. For many young athletes, however, this weekend was about more than just medals and placements. It offered a chance to take a significant step towards securing a track and field scholarship in the USA.
The event attracted college coaches who traveled from the USA to scout new talents. By performing at their best and showcasing their skills in this high-stakes environment, the athletes had the opportunity to catch the eye of these coaches, who were on the lookout for promising recruits for their college teams.
Keystone Sports experts, who were present at the event, engaged in discussions with the coaches about the athletes they represented and potential new Keystone athletes. One highlight was our interaction with Coach Stephen Sousa from Jacksonville State University, a Division I college in Alabama. Due to Keystone Sports’ esteemed reputation in German athletics, Coach Sousa had reached out to us for insights into the athletes.
Particular focus was given to the long jumpers and hurdlers, as Coach Sousa not only identified a need for these events within his college team but also recognized the strength of the participants. Additionally, Keystone Sports experts facilitated direct connections between athletes and their prospective college coaches on-site, enhancing their chances of securing track and field scholarships.

For the athletes in the U18 and U23 age groups, this event was a special opportunity to put themselves in the spotlight and attract potential sponsors. Each year, many track and field athletes seize the chance to study in the USA after high school while continuing to advance their athletic careers.
